Rear Admiral Joseph A. Servidio assumed the duty of Deputy Commander, Atlantic Area in July 2016. As Deputy Commander, he is responsible for all U.S. Coast Guard missions within a geographic region that spans the Rocky Mountains to the Arabian Gulf, and encompasses five Coast Guard Districts and 40 states.

Prior to this he served as the Commander of the Eleventh Coast Guard District where he oversaw multi-mission Coast Guard operations from the California-Oregon border to Peru. While serving as Eleventh District Commander he also served as the Deputy Commander of the Department of Homeland Security’s interagency Joint Task Force – West (JTF-W), responsible for southwest land border security, as well as co-commander of the JTF-W’s California Corridor. As a Flag officer he also served at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C., as the Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, overseeing Coast Guard Inspections and Compliance, Marine Transportation Systems, and Commercial Regulations and Standards. His responsibilities included waterways management, navigation and boating safety, commercial vessels, ports and facilities, merchant mariner credentialing, vessel documentation, marine casualty investigation, inspections, and port state control.

Rear Admiral Servidio’s other prior assignments include: Special Advisor for Homeland Security to the Vice President (2011-2012), First Coast Guard District Chief of Staff (2009-2011); National Security Strategist at the Pentagon on the Air Force Chief of Staff’s Strategic Studies Group (2008); Commanding Officer Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg (2005-2008); Chief, Office of Compliance, Coast Guard Headquarters (2002-2004); and on the Coast Guard’s Department of Transportation to Department of Homeland Security, Transition Team (2002). He also served as Commanding Officer, Marine Safety Office San Juan; Executive Officer, Marine Safety Office San Diego; Instructor/School Chief at the Marine Inspection and Investigation School at Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown; Supervisor, Coast Guard Resident Inspection Office St. Croix; Commercial Vessel Inspector/Investigator at Marine Inspection Office New York; and engineer onboard the Coast Guard Icebreaker NORTHWIND.

Rear Admiral Servidio is a 1982 graduate of the U. S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ocean Engineering. He has also earned three Masters Degrees; two Masters of Science in Engineering Degrees from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Science Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.

Rear Admiral Servidio‘s military awards include five Legion of Merit Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Transportation 9-11 Medal, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, and various service and unit awards. He and his wife Adell have three children, Angelina, Joseph, and Michael.
