Reserve Command Senior Chief, Sector San Juan

Senior Chief Ismael Torres assumed the duties as Reserve Command Silver Badge duties at Sector San Juan on August 2017. His primary responsibility is to advise the Commanding Officer on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Reserve Coast Guard members and their families within the Sector’s area of responsibility, which includes the islands of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Senior Chief Torres previous reserve assignments include Sector San Juan Prevention Department’s Facility, Container and Waterways Division; Sector San Juan Prevention Vessel Inspection Department on the capacity of Vessel and Facility Inspector for the Sector and Subordinates Units of R.I.O. Ponce, MSD St. Thomas and RIO St. Croix as well as serving as Silver Badge as collateral duty. Senior Chief Torres’s active duty previous assignments include Sector San Juan Response Department serving as Pollution Investigator and Sea Marshal duties; Greater Antilles Section at Marine Safety Office San Juan as Facility Inspector, Pollution Investigator, Explosive Handling Supervisor, Vessel Inspector and Sea Marshal; Served onboard CGC NUVIVAK as part of the Deck Department, Rescue Swimmer and Sea Marshal.

Senior Chief Torres holds a Bachelor Degree in Arts from University of Delaware and a Master in Business Administration from University of Phoenix; Senior Chief Torres is a graduate of the Chief Petty Officer’s Academy Class XXXVI.

Born in Zaragoza Spain and raised in Puerto Rico, Senior Chief Torres enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in July 2001 while residing in Newark, Delaware. His personal awards include; Coast Guard Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, two Armed Forces Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War Terrorism Service Medal, Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbons and a Coast Guard Presidential Unit Citation. In addition to various other personal and unit level awards, Senior Chief Torres wears the Permanent Marine Safety Professional insignia and the Reserve Command Senior Chief (Silver Badge) insignia.
