District Response Advisory Team (drat)

 

 

The Ninth Coast Guard District Response Advisory Team (drat) is a highly-skilled team with expertise in spill management, response equipment, and response techniques. DRAT's main responsibility is to provide support to the Federal On-Scene Commander (FOSC) during oil spills and HAZMAT releases in the Ninth District. The DRAT also provides the following services:

 

• Conducts HAZWOPER and ICS training to all Coast Guard units throughout the Ninth District on an annual basis.

• Conducts preventative maintenance and inventories spill response equipment.

• Coordinates and participates in oil and HAZMAT drills to maintain readiness, including joint exercises with Canadian agencies, annual Vessel of Opportunity Skimming System (VOSS) and Spilled Oil Recovery System (SORS) deployments with Coast Guard buoy tenders, and annual Ariel Dispersant Delivery System (ADDS) deployments with Coast Guard and industry.

• Maintains a close working relationship with industry, commercial spill response companies, and state and local agencies, along with an in-depth knowledge of the Great Lakes and its unique geographical features.
