Coast Guard Cutter LEGARE
Commander Jeremy Greenwood is the Commanding Officer of USCGC LEGARE (WMEC-912), a medium endurance Coast Guard cutter homeported in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Commander Greenwood previously served as a Federal Executive Fellow at The Brookings Institution in Washington D.C. as part of the Coast Guard’s Senior Education and Fellowship Program. He has published extensively on topics related to Coast Guard operations and their impact on U.S. foreign relations.
Commander Greenwood’s previous afloat tours include: Executive Officer of USCGC NORTHLAND (WMEC-904) in Portsmouth, Virginia; Commanding Officer of USCGC NANTUCKET (WPB-1315) in St. Petersburg, Florida; Weapons Officer onboard USCGC DALLAS (WHEC-716) in Charleston, South Carolina; and Deck Watch Officer onboard USCGC JARVIS (WHEC-725) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Previous ashore assignments include: Coast Guard Liaison Officer at the U.S. Department of State; Coast Guard Liaison Officer at U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and staff attorney to Commander, Coast Guard Pacific Area and District Eleven in Alameda, California.
Commander Greenwood received his commission in 2004. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in government public policy from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and received a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana, with a specialty certificate in admiralty law. In addition to various personal and campaign awards and medals, he is a member in good standing of the Florida State Bar, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the U.S. Supreme Court.
