The Intel Staff of the Sector Virginia serve as the primary intelligence advisors to the Sector Commander and are responsible for defining and meeting the Sector’s intelligence needs. The Intelligence Division is comprised of uniformed intelligence officers, Petty Officers, and a civilian intelligence specialist.

Members of the Intel Staff act as the first level of intelligence field collectors supporting operation commanders and decision makers. Responsibilities include collecting and reporting intelligence in line with operational commanders’ intelligence requirements and establishing and maintaining relationships with smaller Coast Guard field units as well as port partners at the local, state, and federal levels.

Collateral Duty Intelligence Officers are Coast Guard members stationed at sector field units who are designated to act as liaison between their units and the Sector Intel Staff. These personnel are properly trained to assist and support Sector intelligence collection requirements as necessary.
