MISSION

Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge's area of responsibility encompasses more than 200 miles of waterways including: Mississippi River, Atchafalaya River, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Red River, and portions of Lake Maurepas. Our mission is to provide Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection to the Port and Community of Baton Rouge.

In a typical year, MSU Baton Rouge:

  • Inspects 900 vessels
  • Boards 80 foreign vessels
  • Inspects 99 bulk liquid facilities and 9 dry bulk facilities
  • Responds to 135 pollution incidents
  • Investigates 100 marine casualties
