
Commanding Officer, USCGC NORTHLAND
Commander Andrew B. Dennelly
Commander Dennelly assumed command of NORTHLAND after a successful tour at CG Pacific Area, where he served as Deputy, Cutter Forces, and Polar Operations Program Manager. He has over eight years of sea time with four previous afloat assignments, which include Deck Watch Officer, CGC Forward (WMEC 911) in Portsmouth, VA; Executive Officer, CGC Drummond (WPB 1323) in Miami Beach, FL; Commanding Officer of the Patrol Forces Southwest Asia WPB Relief Crew, Kingdom of Bahrain; and Executive Officer, CGC Bear (WMEC 901) in Portsmouth, VA.
His prior staff assignments include Instructor, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he was responsible for teaching Nautical Science and the Coast Guard’s first ever 100-ton Master professional licensing course to First Class cadets; and as Command Duty Officer in the Coast Guard’s Seventh District command center, where he was responsible for overseeing search and rescue, and law enforcement operations throughout the southeastern United States and the Caribbean Basin.
A native of Batavia, Illinois, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Government from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2006 and a Master’s degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2017. His personal awards include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medals and other unit and service awards.
He is married to the former Megan Davison of Somers, New York. They have two children: Quinn and Tyler.
