Commander Justin H. Gordon

 

Commander Gordon assumed the duties of Executive Officer at Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, GA in June of 2020.

In July 2000 he joined the service as a cadet at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.  After commissioning in 2004, he was among the first class of Academy graduates to go straight to flight school.  He earned his “wings of gold” in January 2006 and reported to Coast Guard Air Station Miami as an H-65 pilot.  In Miami, Commander Gordon performed Search & Rescue as well as Alien Migrant Interdiction Operations throughout South Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean Basin.

From 2010 to 2014 he was stationed at Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City where he earned instructor pilot and flight examiner designations.  In addition to Search & Rescue, Port Security, and Living Marine Resource missions, Commander Gordon conducted Rotor Wing Air Interdiction operations in the National Capital Region and throughout the U.S. in support of Presidential travel.

Following a two year Financial Management graduate school program at the University of Maryland at College Park, Commander Justin Gordon reported to Coast Guard Headquarters in May of 2016.  During his first year he served as the Personnel Allowance List (PAL) Team Lead, managing the service’s 60k military and civilian positions.  In June of 2017, Commander Gordon became the Funds Control Division Deputy Chief, the division which oversees the execution of the Coast Guard’s $12B budget from the strategic level of the organization.

Commander Gordon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Government from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as well as a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Maryland at College Park.  His personal awards include the Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, and three Coast Guard Achievement Medals.

In his spare time, Commander Gordon enjoys skiing, jogging, and traveling.  He lives with his husband, Matt, who currently serves as an Army Psychologist at Hunter Army Airfield.
