D9 PHOTO COLLAGEThe Ninth Coast Guard District is responsible for all Coast Guard operations throughout the five Great Lakes, the Saint Lawrence Seaway and parts of the surrounding states including 6,700 miles of shoreline and 1,500 miles of the international border with Canada. The 6,000 active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary men and women who make up the Ninth District deliver multi-mission services in search and rescue, maritime safety and security, environmental protection, maritime law enforcement, aids to navigation and icebreaking.

Due to the submerged mast, STA was unable to tow the vessel into Racine Harbor. STA coordinated with Tow Boat US to anchor the vessel near Racine Harbor for salvage. Yesterday, #USCG SEC Lake Michigan received notification of a 40’ catamaran w/ a broken mast causing loss of steering. Vessel had 5 POB (w/ PFDs) and a dog. BZ #USCG STA Sheboygan on the quick response of a 38’ S/V LOONEY taking on water, w/ 5 POB wearing life jackets, 6 NM east of Kewaunee Harbor. STA arrived on scene and escorted the S/V back to Kewaunee Harbor Marina.
