Commanding Officer, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City

 

Capt. M. Scott Austin, the commanding officer assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, is an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter pilot whose aviation tours include Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron – Jacksonville, and Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles. He operated the Dolphin aboard Coast Guard cutters and partner nation vessels across the Western Hemisphere and in the United Kingdom, performing missions ranging from search and rescue to international narcotics interdiction. His earliest assignments included the medium endurance cutter USCGC Bear (WMEC 901) and Maritime Security Response Team East, where he executed law enforcement and counter-terrorism missions from U.S. waters to South America and West Africa.

Outside the cockpit, Austin served as a U.S. Senate fellow to the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee and as deputy director for capability development within the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. North Command’s Intelligence Directorate. He most recently served as the Coast Guard fellow to the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology and possesses a bachelor’s degree in Government from the Coast Guard Academy as well as a master’s in Homeland Defense and Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School.
