COMMANDING OFFICER
CAPTAIN DAVID M. MCCOWN
Captain David McCown currently serves as the First Coast Guard District Chief of Incident Response. He previously served as the Executive Officer of Air Station Cape Cod, MA from 2020 until 2023. He also served as the Coast Guard Liaison to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans and Strategy. In this capacity, he aligned Coast Guard and Navy strategic efforts in support of the National Defense Strategy and the National Military Strategy.
His previous aviation assignments include Aviation Training Center Mobile, AL, Sector Columbia River, OR Air Station Kodiak, AK and Air Station Cape Cod, MA. Captain McCown earned designation as a Flight Examiner in both the MH-60J and MH-60T and has logged over 3000 hours.
Captain McCown is originally from Estes Park, CO and graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science in Management. His first operational tour was aboard the USCGC BRAMBLE (WLB 392) in Port Huron, MI. He also served on the USCGC BARANOF (WPB 1318) deployed to Bahrain in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Captain McCown’s personal decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, three Commendation Medals, three Achievement Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and others. He is a two-time recipient of the Vertical Flight Society CAPT William J. Kossler Award for achievement in operation of vertical lift aircraft. Additionally, he received both the 2022 Naval Helicopter Association Aircrew of the Year Award and the 2022 Leonardo Cormorant Trophy.
He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
He is married to Joanne Langevin of Warwick, RI.
