Master Chief Joseph Sweetland assumed the duties as Command Master Chief for Sector Key West on July 6, 2026, where serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader for all U.S. Coast Guard personnel assigned to Sector Key West. His Primary responsibility is to advise the Sector Commander on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard members and their families. Sector Key West encompasses a 55,000 square nautical mile region bordering the territorial seas of Cuba and the Bahamas, comprising the Port of Key West, the Southern Straits of Florida, and the Gulf of America.

His previous assignments include: Command Master Chief of Maritime Force Protection Unit, Bangor, Base Cape Cod as Senior Enlisted Leader and Deputy for the Operations Officer, CG Personnel Service Center’s (PSC) Business Operations Department working as funds manager and Accountable Property Officer, Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS)-833 as account reconciler, CG District Thirteen (DXR) as Reserve Berthing Manager and Reserve full-time support, ISC Seattle managing the purchase card program for District Northwest, National Command Center as duty SK, and the CGC DEPENDABLE (WMEC 626) as duty SK, and CIC Watch stander. 

Master Chief Sweetland is a proud graduate of the Senior Enlisted Leadership Course (Class 97), the Chief Petty Officer Academy (Class 214) and numerous other service schools. He is a Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) and is pursuing a degree in Government. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, CG Commendation Medal, five Achievement Medals, seven Letters of Commendation, and the Department of Transportation 9/11 Ribbon, along with several other personal and unit awards. 

A native of Scottsburg, Indiana, Master Chief Sweetland enlisted in the Coast Guard in February of 2001.
