Coast Guard Station (Small) Washington Island

Station (Small) Washington Island is a seasonal station open from Memorial Day to Labor day. During this time, the station is manned by active duty and reserve "summer stock" personnel. The station is located in a remodeled chalet in Detroit Harbor on the southern end of Washington Island. The unit is equipped with a 30' Utility Boat. The station performs the same summer missions of Search and Rescue and Law Enforcement as Station Sturgeon Bay. When closed during the winter, the personnel return to Sturgeon Bay until the following summer. Designated a Station (Small), the unit is under the command of the Station Sturgeon Bay Officer in Charge, but the Washington Island supervisor, a Boatswains Mate First Class, is a direct representative of the parent command's OIC. All Washington Island personnel are actually assigned to Station Sturgeon Bay and live in Sturgeon Bay.
