Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor

Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor is situated on Lake Erie, along the old World War II era piers on East 9th St. in Cleveland, OH. The unit has been located at this site since 1976 and has been engaged in Search and Rescue efforts on the Great Lakes since the times of the U.S. Lifesaving Service dating back to 1875.

Today, the station engages in many missions, ranging from Search and Rescue and Recreational Boating Safety, to Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security. In 2012, alone, station personnel responded to nearly 140 Search and Rescue cases and conducted over 400 law enforcement boardings. When the weather turns cold and the lakes begin to freeze, unit assets are removed from the water and station personnel shift to Ice Rescue.

The station's area of responsibility covers about 550 square miles of the federally navigable waters of Lake Erie, including the Cuyahoga and Rocky rivers, as well as a countless number of their tributaries.
